16 Tips for Clear, Acne-Free Skin

Are you struggling with acne or random breakouts that don’t seem to have any cause or cure? Before you sprint to the nearest dermatologist or, worse, freak out in the mirror and make a mad dash to your local beauty store, check out these 16 tips for more beautiful skin. Get rid of those random breakouts and take control of your acne once and for all!

Do’s the Don’ts of What to Put on Your Skin

  • DO use oil-free soaps and moisturizers on your face.
  • DON’T use oil based cosmetics. Go for light, mineral based cosmetics.
  • DON’t use products that contain fragrances or preservatives. These are irritating and potentially harmful!
  • DO use an oil-free sunblock on your face at all times! Look for a block of 15 spf or higher that is effective against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • DON’T use greasy hair products and, contrary to popular hair trends, keep your hair out of your face. Shampoos, conditioners, and hair products are the leading cause of forehead breakouts, according to an Atlanta, Ga Esthetician.
  • DO apply makeups and creams with a disposable applicator. These can be picked up at any local beauty store or pharmacy on the cheap.

Easy Skincare Tips

  • Avoid over-washing your face. Use mild soap and wash once in the morning and once in the evening.
  • Use lukewarm water when washing your face. Hot water dries out your skin and can seal pores, preventing moisture from penetrating. Remember: moisture = good — oil = bad.
  • Apply moisturizer to slightly damp skin to allow your skin to absorb the water with the moisturizer.
  • Allow time for your pores to close before applying makeup.
  • Drink lots and lots and lots of water! Your skin needs to stay hydrated, too!
  • Eat healthy foods that are good for your skin!
  • Always remove your makeup and wash your face before bed!
  • Avoid touching your face. Microscopic dirt and bacteria causes buildup in your pores.   Buildup = Breakout
  • Avoid sunbathing and tanning. Not only will it age your skin and increase your chances of having Melanoma (seriously, girls!), but it is a myth that it clears up your skin.
  • Don’t pop pimples! You’re spreading the bacteria both on the surface and underneath.

Quick ‘n Dirty Clean Tips!

If you wear eye-glasses or sun glasses a lot, wash the nose pieces often with anti-bacterial soap.

Prone to acne on your cheeks? Make sure you’re not resting your hands or arms on your cheeks, and try washing your pillow case more often with fragrance free detergent.

  1. Great tips!
I do need to remember to clean my sunglasses more often! I’m usually wearing them when I have sunscreen on as well.

  2. Excellent tips! I didn’t even think to clean the nose piece to my glasses. Now I feel gross. haha

  3. This is really helpful! I wash my face almost five times a day but I found out it makes my skin even drier. Thanks for the tips!

  4. Great tips! I’m one of those people who break out with anything I put on my face! I’ve never used soap on my face. I went through my “tanning” phase a few years ago but once I could see how it was drying out and damaging my skin I put a stop to it.

It is important to take care of our skin from an early age on. I think the condition of your skin is the first thing that shows your age when you are older and now that I’m 50, I don’t need to look any older than I already am!

  5. I love it when I find a list that gives me concise information! I don’t personally suffer from many skin conditions anymore, but I know I can pass this along and will be helpful. Thanks
